Eddie Aikau

The filmmakers call this film Hawaiian, The Legend of Eddie Aikau because the documentary was about Eddie who was a true legend from Hawaii. The topic was Eddie Aikau, the focus was the Hawaiian identity and surfing career of Eddie, and the angle was that Eddie worked hard to sustain Hawaiian culture and brought honor to his ancestors through his courageous actions and family/community. The assumptions that the filmmakers made about the audience was that we wanted to see something about sports and about an athlete, to show us that sports have more to them. The film would have been different if it had been made by PBS of the History channel because it would have focused more on the Hawaiian culture facts and more about the ship at the end of the documentary.
